After spending most of my adult life in the metropolitan areas of Boston and New York - I sorely wanted to get back to the "country". I grew up in a little town called Granby in the middle of the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts. Once Sophie retired we were able to make our way back and we decided on settling in Granby. We bought a small property with a house and a barn and some fencing and didn't have a clue as to what to do with that barn. Many suggestions were made but after about a year of looking and sorting out - one of our friends said: "have you thought about alpacas?". As many of us - we looked at each other and said: "what's an alpaca?". Not liking unanswered questions we set out on our quest for the illusive alpaca. After about a year of going to shows and talking to breeders we purchased our first alpacas... and we have not looked back since. We have made mistakes, and learned many lessons along the way and we find there are always more lessons to learn - but still we have not looked back.
When I started my career in the financial services business some 30+ years ago I was taught, by a great company, to serve my clients first. I built one business with that philosophy and now I have entered into the alpaca business with the same philosophy - to serve your needs first. Getting to know you and what your goals and objectives are is the first step in my process. Gathering the necessary information as to where you are in your business, looking at your business plan or helping you create one, considering what your budget is and what you want from your herd in the short term and in the long term is all important to beginning our relationship.
