My background as a physician has helped me understand the genetics and health of the alpacas. It has helped me understand the best breedings to get the highest quality animals.

The cost of alpacas varies considerable and I encourage everyone to look at lots of alpacas before you purchase any. Most alpacas sell for between a couple of hundred dollars and about ten thousand dollars. Years ago the price was much higher but over the past couple of years I would say that most alpacas are selling in that range. The big farms, with big names are still charging ten thousand and more for alpacas.

What I have done is purchase several animals from these "big name farms" and breed them. I am now selling most of these animals for around three thousand dollars. I think this is a good value where you are getting a very high quality animal but not paying the very high prices.

When you purchase a female alpaca from me you will get one breeding for no additional cost to any of my Herdsires. My best herdsire is Maxtrix Sentinal. He is the son of Snowmass Matrix, the most expensive stud ever purchased at auction at $675,000 in 2010 Snowmass Making of a Champion sale.

I feed all of my alpacas very high quality hay always available. They get to live in a green pasture over one half of the year. In addition they get barley sprouts every day, Stillwater minerals, and high quality grain. (See my web page on my Fodder System). Some ranches restrict feeding to get better statistics on the fiber. By reducing the food to an alpaca you can get finer fiber. This usually does not result in a very healthy animal.
