I have enjoyed raising alpacas for the passed 4 years. Some of the most enjoyable times I have had with the alpacas have been when we have had a birth of a cria, or just sitting in a comfortable chair in the shade with a cold drink and listen to them hum, or graze the grass with Starr Bear, my livestock guard dog, sitting by my side. In the cold months they can get very lively and jump and run and pronk around the pasture chasing each other. In the Summer, they love to get sprinkled with the hose, and sip the cool water. For awhile I had a little wading pool for them, but their nails punctured the plastic. They each have different personalities and special food treats. Some love chopped apple and others bits of fig newton.
